a few of my favorite things...

I heard this song from The Sound of Music on the radio today. I always wondered why it was considered a christmas song? Anyways, inspiration struck, and now I present to you a few of my favorite things!
-Being able to stay inside and enjoy the snow, wrapped up in a warm blanket
-Having Becca's covered parking spot while she is gone... no scraping!
-The smell of a real Christmas tree
-A Rebel victory (even sweeter over Arizona)
-My HD computer moniter and free online episodes of Grey's Anatomy and Friday Night Lights
-Ugg Boots. You may say out of style, I say save my life in the snow on a daily basis.
-My little sister Hannah. She called me today and said "Lyssie, I have a great idea. Why don't you just come home today?" I told her I wish I could, but I had to work for two more days. Then she said, "I hate your work." Me too, Boots.
-My quote book
-The smell of laundry
-My new green plaid flannel shirt from Urban. I want to wear it every day!
-Pretend diamond earrings from Nords... gotta have a little bling
-The new Taylor Swift album. My friend told me I was lame because Taylor Swift is for middle school girls. Too bad, I will always love Taylor.
-Pictures. More specifically, pictures that bring good memories with them.
-Stila eye shadow in any brown
-Victoria's PINK pants. I live in them.
-My blanket Grammy made for me for graduation. It has all my old tshirts from high school and even some pictures on it. I uses it every single day
-Hoodies. Any kind will do.
And last but not least...
-My friends. More specifically, Jackie, Courtney, Becca, Ally and Brittany. We had our little Christmas the other night, and it was so fun. They are the best and I love them SO SO much.

P.S. Please look at these adorable aprons my Grandma Dixon made for my friends. Cute huh?

I just love Temple Square during Christmas. It's an amazing place any time of the year, but there's a special spirit surrounding it during the holidays. The thousands of lights surrounding the temple are seriously breathtaking! I've always loved Christmas lights. In fact, my family has a tradition of driving around town and looking at houses on the monday night before Christmas. We even have our own rating system ("ooh", "aah", "wow") and we always follow it up with hot Krispy Kremes. I'm kind of sad that I'll miss that tradition this year, being that I'm not coming home till Christmas Eve. However, being able to go enjoy the lights at Temple Square certainly makes up for it. We (me and the girls) ate at the Garden on top of the JSMB... not as good as I remembered it, but still satisfying. Then we went out and walked around for a bit and just enjoyed the season. I think the Salt Lake Temple is one of the most beautiful in the world, and so unique. It makes it that much more beautiful when the square is lit up even more! If you get a chance to be up in Salt Lake during the Christmas season, you MUST go check it out. So worth it!

'Tis the Season

What I've been up to:
Ward Christmas Party... the bishop loves us

A little tree decorating

A little bridal shower-ing for our good friend Anne

A little fast sunday dinner-ing with cousins and friends

and of course... a little gingerbread housing! Mine was a beautiful masterpiece. Naturally, I had to add a little detail of it to make sure everyone knew it was mine...

and then it fell. Oh well.

Oh how I love the holidays.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays!

Title courtesy of my favorite non-traditional christmas song! Me and my mom both agree that the 'Nsync christmas CD is one of the best out there... I highly recommend it. Sorry that I go a little picture crazy on some of these posts, I just love pictures. They bring back such good memories! Anyways, I LOVE THE HOLIDAYS! Seriously. I look forward to being able to listen to christmas music, decorate the tree, see all the lights around town, and even being able to light my fabulous smelling christmas candle! Oh how sweet it is. This Christmas season will be a little weird because I won't be able to go home until Christmas Eve, being as I have to work. I miss seeing my house all lit up and helping my mom decorate. My favorite part about our Christmas decorations at home are our stockings. I don't know if you can see them in any of the pictures, but they are all homemade by my mom and grandma and each one is different and unique. We've had them since we were born and it warms my heart every time we get them out and hang them up! I'm also seriously looking forward to Christmas Eve dinner (prime rib... YUM) and Christmas morning breakfast at Gram's (strawberry waffles... YUM YUM!). Yes it's true, I'm such a Leavitt, looking forward more to the food than the presents! I will miss my cousin Jakey this year at breakfast, but I'm sure he will have a great christmas with the Ecuadorians. I'm excited pick out gifts for my family, but I really cannot think of anything to ask for this year. I'm pretty much set! I just love everything about this season because I actually enjoy focusing on everyone else rather than myself. I can't wait to serve others around me and make their holidays just as good as mine. I'm looking forward to giving my roomates their presents and putting a smile on their faces. I just love this time of year. I hope everyones season is fantastic and that we don't forget the true meaning of these holidays! Enjoy them while they are around :)

Happy Birfday Mom!

I have the bestest momma in the world! She is so loving and takes great care of me even from 400 miles away. I love to be around her and just chat about things. Sometimes she says the funniest things- for example, "Spread your wings and try new pizza!" Infamous mom quote. I love you mom and hope you had the best day!

It's finally time!

Okay friends and family... we all know know how much I love my UNLV Rebels. Yes, it's finally that time of year! I normally hate the winter, but I actually find myself looking forward to it more and more every year because winter=college basketball. I'm such a junkie. Now, why do I love the Rebels so much? Let me fill you in. I love the drives to the games, speculating on the possibilities. I love walking through the tunnel into the T&M, with the teams warming up and so much energy in the air, it's almost tangible. I love seeing our "Rebel Family"- The Grensings, Hills, Shepards, Bridget, Mr. Carter (my health teacher turned usher), and of course Coach and Barb... its even fun seeing Ricky and Lucy and wheelchair man, no matter how much they drive us crazy. I love it when the lights go down and the inspirational pregame video comes on the screen. I love the fireworks and the fight song and the pregame intros of all our favorite players. I love the clapping prior to the tip off. I love the student section starting the RE-BELS chant, echoing through the entire building. I love the announcer saying "THREE-point goal" (and the new flashing of the Leavitt Insurance logo through the Mac... gotta love the plugs). I love the place flooded with people in Red. I love sitting next to Jessi and Kori in the best seats in the house- front row right next to the bench. I love that we have our own nicknames and jokes about everyone and everything. I love yelling at the refs... when the time is appropriate, not after every call (ahem, BYU fans). I love that Cliffy learned his lesson and started offering season tickets to the winner of the Findlay shoot-out. Times are tough Cliffy, can't be giving away cars left and right. I love the confetti after a win, and listening to Jon and Gondo on post-game live. I love that the players acknowledge the student section after the games. Classy. Basically, I love everything about this team, this place, and this game. I can't help but smile and forget everything going on outside when I step into the Mac, prepared to immerse myself in the game, good or bad. I LOVE MY REBS.
So, college basketball season is upon us, and I couldn't be more happy about. Here's to high hopes for an exciting season!

The Big 2-1

Happy Birthday to my bestest friend Samantha Dawn! Also known as ham ham, hambino, sammy doo, and beeef jerky (to a select few). I just love this girl with all my heart and I can't believe she is 21! Now you can actually go clubbing like we've always talked about... hit em up for me. Anyways, here's 21 things I love about my Sammy:
1. She is accepting of everyone
2. She's not ashamed or afraid to be herself, no matter what
3. She's always up for a fat day with me!
4. White Wine Spritzer (which I indulged in tonight to celebrate)
5. Her random knowledge of every movie ever made... including the most randoms
6. Her appreciation of Kim Fuller films ("I don't know, but whatever it is it feels great. That I could be the one...")
7. She knows every lyric to every song... seriously even all the oldies!
8. The fact that she didn't get her license till like senior year... we had to bond because I had to give her rides all the time!
9. Being volleyball groupies together all through high school
10. Peacing out on broadcasting senior year to get sausage egg mcmuffins... in her moms car... when she didn't have her license
11. She's not afraid to speak her mind to anyone... even if it requires standing on a table in the middle of the quad and calling people out haha
12. She is extremely loyal
13. She's the only person that I can just call up and talk to on the phone... I HATE talking on the phone but with Sam I can talk for hours and not even notice
14. Carmines at 2 in the AM... always down
15. That she shares my love for Rebs! JD45 anyone?
16. Her passion for all things Chicago. Bears Bulls Cubs (next year...), even Chicago Dogs from Weinerschnitzel
17. Speaking of Weinershnitzel, she's my only friend that enjoys it with me!
18. The fact that we've known each other since 6th grade... she saw me in the prime of my awkward phase and is still friends with me! "Go get yourself a treat"- Ms. Patenaude
19. We did this incredible science project in 8th grade that required a 6 ft by 6 ft display board and it was incredible. And our science teacher hated us and didn't put us in the Expo for reasons still unknown. OCD OCD is a big big problem!
20. Amp it up... enough said.
21. She is the only person I know who owns and rocks red sequined chucks and gold knee high lace up shoes on a daily basis.

I really could go on for forever. I love my hambo! I don't know what I would do without her. HAPPY 21ST SAMMY DOO!

why's of the week

Why is all my clean laundry sitting in a pile on my floor?
Why do teachers assign 45 minute long presentations within 5 days of each other?
Why do I live in the ice cold tundra where it's already snowing?
Why do I have the worst luck ever and drop my phone into a glass of water? Yes, a GLASS of water.
Why are there so many cute coats at work that I want to buy but I just cannot?
Why didn't I take more pictures while the leaves were pretty and still on the trees?
Why do I dread Halloween every year, but always end up having a blast?
Why can't Thanksgiving come sooner?!?!
Why do people act like it's the end of the world when the candidate they voted for loses the Presidential election? So I didn't vote for Obama, but like it or not, he is my President. I will support him and put my trust in him, hoping that he'll fulfill his duties to the best of his ability. He's very capable. By the way, I think it's amazingly cool that I was involved in the election that ultimately ended up with the first black man in the White House. So historic.

This post wasn't a woe is me post, but more of a "here is what I'm up to right now, in the form of questions" post. I love my life. I just don't like winter/school/lack of funds. So now I leave you with some pics from said fun Halloween. Peace.

Jackie and her boyfriend dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf after he ate grandma... it was hysterical

sista friend.

This is my sister Jessica. She is really pretty. Besides that, she came up to Provo this weekend and hung out with me for a little bit and it was SO fun. We watched UNLV ALMOST beat the coogs, we ate lots and lots of food, and we hung out with some of my old Vegas friends who were quite surprised to see little Jessi all grown up. One of my friends even secretly tried to hit on her... don't worry I sent him packing! Here are some reasons why I love Jessi:
-She lets me hang out with her when I come home
-She lets me borrow her clothes... well after the fact that I already am wearing them... whoops
-She sometimes shares her giant bed with me (after all, it was mine before it was hers!)
-She has really pretty hair
-She is extremely spoiled but I don't care because it usually benefits me!
-We had to share a room from basically birth to halfway through my freshman year of HS and we didn't kill each other! We did come close tho...
-She acts very angelic but when we're alone she does some really strange/hilarious things (kitty katty anyone??)
-We have lots of inside jokes where we just say one word and laugh at each other
-She supports me in everything
-Everyone says we look alike and even though I don't see it, I take it as a compliment because Jessica is gorgeous
-She's ridiculously smart and always gets good grades and makes me feel dumb... but I still love her for that!
-She shares in my passion for rebs and we have had many good times sitting together in the front row three... and at rebs trips that turn out to be really amazing and beneficial to our lives
-We didn't fight ONCE during two weeks in Australia! Amazing!
-She has a really big heart and is friends with everyone, even people that don't have a lot of friends
-Even though she cons Boots into writing blogs about her, we both know that I am the favorite daughter in the family!

Pretty much I just love my little sister! She is the best and I miss hanging out with her all the time and I really hopes she chooses to come to this WONDERFUL place we call P-Town for college!

oh how i can't wait...

These boys. Let me tell you how I love them. First of all, they are all dang sexy. Could there be a better looking basketball team? I submit that there cannot... unless you added in Kyle Korver, or any of the Korver brothers for that matter. In that case, I wouldn't be able to control myself. Anyways, these boys just got me more and more excited for this season on Friday night, aka FirstLook 2008. Even though I could do without the 39 minutes of cheerleader and band introductions, it was still a great event, in my opinion. Highlight? Deshawn "DeShow" Mitchell throwing down the rock during warmups... holy smokes, that kid is a high flyer! I'm excited to see him in game action this year. He and Oscar are gonna be a big duo in the coming years. Beas, even though he is like a brother to me, is gonna be a little raw, but just give him time. He's gonna adjust and come out big. Of course my main man Joseph was looking good during the scrimmage, even tho earlier that morning he couldn't hit the side of a barn! I don't think he's gonna be phased by the furthering of the 3, and I certainly cannot wait for that matchup on January 21 when he once again shuts down my old flame JT with a dagger right in his face. Me, Dixon, Jessi and Kori got to go to the real first practice on Friday morning, being the real insiders that we are. Lots of defensive drills. Lots of clapping and running to pick up teammates. Lots of checking out Tre-Will's arms... whoops! Bottom line? I love my Rebels. I've been counting down the days to this season since the day I got back from Australia, and its getting SO CLOSE! Here's to 22 days.

here's the thing...

I'm out of material people. My life is ridiculously tedious at the time, therefore I have nothing exciting to blog about (hence prior tag post). Here is my life these days:
Wake up. Press the snooze button approximately 3 times before actually getting up. Finally get up, get dressed and such and go to class. Drive around for 10 minutes before finding a parking spot. Walk to classroom, then try to stay awake in said class. Go back home and take a power nap/eat lunch before work. Drive to the mall and work at the wonderful buckle for about 4 or 5 hours and then go back home. Eat dinner. Watch tv. Maybe do a little homework. Listen to Jackie and her boyfriend wrestle and yell and scream obnoxiously (sorry j it's my blog I can rant). Listen to Becca talk to her boyfriend/possibly-future-fiance-maybe talk on the phone for hours and hours. Try to read a book but get distracted and resort back to the tv. Spend too many hours watching reruns of MTV reality shows before finally going to bed much too late.
Sounds like a blast, right?
Thank goodness fall break is next week and I get a nice, well-earned 3 day weekend! Well, 4 days without school, but only 3 without work. Still nice. Head back to the 702 for first look practice (don't get me started I can't wait) and a friend's wedding reception (too many of those lately). It will be nice to get out of Utah again. There's something to be said about not being a native Utahn.
I wish I was politically-savvy and could give some sort of inspirational epiphany I had after watching the veep/presidential debates! All I can say is, I like Sarah Palin. She's got spunk. John McCain is a stud, too, even if he can't lift his arms above his shoulders... and Barack has big ears. Oh yeah, and I think its wrong that Michelle Obama was named one of People magazine's top ten most stylish people of 2008... Cindy McCain dresses much better, thanks.
Speaking of fashion, I found some Rich & Skinny (yes, that is the name of the brand and just so happens to be the exact opposite of how I'm feeling at the moment) $152 jeans on sale at Nordstrom for 41 dollars! I was SO excited. They are adorable and I can't wait to wear them with boots this winter (ugh winter. dreaded word).
Songs I'm digging? "Human" by the Killers. FINALLY a solid Killers song after their last album was a disappointment. "Love Lockdown" by Kanye West, he's taking a crack at singing a little and its not bad! Last but not least, "Womanizer" by my girl Britney. The Spears is makin' a come back, ya'll!
And last but not least, by brother commented that the picture of my past love in my last post made him sick. D, this one, spotted in the Marriott Center parking lot, should have the exact same effect.
